Famously known for their iconic rangefinder cameras and lenses spanning back to the introduction of 35mm film, Leica joined the SLR race against Canon and Nikon in the 1964 with their R bayonet system. Leica R lenses were widely recognised as the best lenses in the world, but failed to gain traction in an already crowded market place against more advanced, faster Japanese SLR cameras. Now regarded for their quality and character, Leica R primes deliver images that are sharp and well-corrected, but still very flattering on your subject, and flare beautifully compared to their modern Leitz Cine cousins.
