A diffusion filter set used to subtly take the edge off modern digital images. It lowers highlight harshness, blooms practicals, and slightly lifts the black point to soften contrast without destroying detail or sharpness.
The effect is controlled rather than heavy-handed—skin tones roll off more gently, and highlights gain a halation-like glow that feels more organic under hard or mixed lighting. Strength is typically chosen per scene rather than left constant across a project.
Used when you want to reduce the clinical feel of high-resolution sensors without changing lenses or lighting setups.
