Iron Glass MK1

A rehoused Soviet stills lens set built from vintage optical designs, modernised for cinema use. Fast apertures, strong character, and a distinctly imperfect rendering that leans into field curvature, soft edges and pronounced flaring rather than correcting it.

Originally derived from mass-produced Eastern Bloc optics, these lenses were never about clinical performance. In their modern housings, they become a controlled way of accessing that unpredictability—low contrast, painterly roll-off, and a texture that reacts heavily to light.

The MK1 set is used when the image needs personality over precision, particularly on full-frame digital sensors where their imperfections become more pronounced and usable.
